UAE Corporate Tax Registration: The Post-Licence Checklist (2026)

Checklist graphic: UAE corporate tax registration, investor visa and corporate bank account steps after getting a trade licence

UAE corporate tax registration is the first thing to do after you get a UAE trade licence. Register your company with the Federal Tax Authority through the EmaraTax portal, and start your investor visa and corporate bank account applications at the same time. Registering late carries an AED 10,000 penalty, so put it at the top of the list.

Getting the licence feels like the finish line. It is the starting line. Founders who treat the licence as the end of the process usually find, a few weeks later, that they have no bank account, no residence visa and a tax registration they forgot about. This checklist covers what to do next and in what order.

What do you need to do after getting a UAE trade licence?

Three things, and they should run in parallel rather than one after another:

  1. Register for UAE corporate tax with the Federal Tax Authority.
  2. Start your UAE investor visa steps through the immigration channel your licence authority uses (ICP/GDRFA).
  3. Open a UAE corporate bank account.

Each one has its own waiting time. The tax registration takes an afternoon of your effort. The visa mostly waits on government processing. The bank account mostly waits on the bank's compliance review. None of them blocks the others, so doing them sequentially can turn a three-week process into a three-month one.

Step 1: UAE corporate tax registration

Your company needs to register for corporate tax and receive a tax registration number. Registration is a separate obligation from paying tax, so you register even if you expect to owe nothing in your first year.

The cost of getting this wrong is specific: AED 10,000 for late registration. That is a penalty for a form you could have filed in an afternoon.

How to do it:

  • Create your account on the Federal Tax Authority's EmaraTax portal at tax.gov.ae.
  • Check the registration deadline that applies to your licence type and issue date on the official site. Do not rely on a date from an agent or a social post.
  • Gather your documents: the trade licence, passport and Emirates ID copies for owners and managers, and your licensed activities.
  • Submit the registration and save the confirmation and your tax registration number. Your bank will ask for it.

Put the deadline in your calendar the day the licence arrives, not the week it is due.

Step 2: UAE investor visa steps

The visa is where most of the waiting happens, so start early. The exact route depends on your free zone or mainland setup, but the shape is the same.

  1. Confirm your visa quota. Your licence package decides how many visas you can sponsor. Check this before planning for co-founders or hires.
  2. Entry permit or status change. If you are outside the UAE you typically start with an entry permit. If you are already inside, you may need a status change.
  3. Medical test and Emirates ID biometrics. Book these as soon as the permit is issued.
  4. Visa stamping. Once the medical clears, the residence visa is issued and linked to your Emirates ID.

Your licence authority or a PRO service normally files this for you, so ask them for the exact document list instead of guessing. If you plan to travel in the first weeks, ask before booking, because an entry permit or status change can interact with your travel dates.

Step 3: UAE corporate bank account opening

A licence does not guarantee an account. Banks run their own checks on your business model, your owners and where your money comes from. These make it smoother:

  • A clear business description. Be able to say in two sentences who your clients are, what you sell and where they are based.
  • Proof of activity. A signed client contract, an invoice template or a working website helps more than most founders expect.
  • Clean owner documents. Passports, visas, proof of address and a source-of-funds explanation.
  • Your tax registration number. Another reason to do Step 1 first.

Apply to more than one bank if you can. A rejection from one bank does not predict the others, and you do not want your whole timeline resting on a single decision.

Post-licence checklist

  • Store the licence, MOA and incorporation documents in one shared folder.
  • Register on EmaraTax and file for corporate tax. Note the registration number.
  • Confirm your visa quota and start the entry permit or status change.
  • Book the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics.
  • Prepare your bank pack: business description, contracts, owner documents, tax number.
  • Submit applications to at least two banks.
  • Set calendar reminders for licence renewal and corporate tax filings.

UAE corporate tax registration: frequently asked questions

Do I need to register for corporate tax if I have no income yet?

Registration and paying tax are separate obligations. Check your specific position on the Federal Tax Authority's website, because the answer depends on your company type and activity.

What is the penalty for late UAE corporate tax registration?

Late registration carries an AED 10,000 penalty.

Can I open a corporate bank account before my visa is issued?

It depends on the bank. Some start the process earlier than others, so ask when you apply.

Who files the investor visa, me or my licence authority?

Usually the licence authority or a PRO service files it for you. Ask for their document list on day one.

What order should I do the post-licence steps in?

Do not queue them. File the tax registration first because it is quick and carries a penalty, and start the visa and bank applications the same week.
